Pallas-Athena Vienna

Posted by piCreation under ,
This is a shot from a business trip to Vienna. It portrays the Athena Fountain in front of the Austrian Parliament.

According to Wikipedia, it was erected between 1893 and 1902 by Carl Kundmann, Josef Tautenhayn, and Hugo Haerdlt, based on the plans by Baron von Hansen.
In the middle is a water-basin and a richly decorated base. The four lying figures at the foot of Athena are allegorical representations of the four most important rivers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. They represent at the front the Danube and Inn, in the back part the Elbe and Vltava rivers. On the sides are little cupids riding dolphins. The statues of the Danube, Inn, and the cupids were executed by Haerdtl, those of the Elbe and Moldau by Kundmann.
The female statues above represent the legislative and executive powers of the state, executed by Tautenhayn. They are again dominated by the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena standing on a pillar. Athena is dressed in armor with a gilded helmet, her left hand carries a spear, her right carries Nike.

The colours convey the grey atmosphere of those drizzling and chilly days. But they fail to express the imperial majesty of the city. This inspired me to emphasize the golden elements of the statue.

Valencia... what an amazing city!
In just a weekend I took dozens and dozens of pictures.
And when I came home, I couldn't help to make some digital experiments on them.

Let's start with this conventional, naturalistic, shot of Calatrava's Hemisfèric.

This is the same picture, with just some filters on

Some friends of mine said that the edited versions are great, some others that I definitely lack of taste...

And you, what do you think?
How would you edit the plain picture?
Would you like to edit and
share your own shots?
